On the evening of April 25th, the 2026 Guangdong City Football Super League (Yuechao) kicked off at Yuexiushan Stadium in Guangzhou, a "hallowed ground" for football in Guangdong. Using light and shadow as its brush, the opening ceremony painted a vivid picture infused with football passion, Lingnan charm and technological flair. Three chapters, including "Images of Guangdong,""Charms of Guangdong" and "Light of Guangdong," unfolded in succession, presenting fans at the stadium with a breathtaking audiovisual feast.

"Forgive me for my lifelong, unrestrained love of goals!" Singer Dongshan Shaoye, whose real name is Liao Huan, and Guangdong-born table tennis player Lin Gaoyuan led some 10,000 fans in a rousing chorus of Beyond's classic song "Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies," bringing the passion for football and the city's collective spirit to a crescendo. That night, football, hailed as the world's most popular sport, became a bond linking cities together. With 21 cities joining in a dreamlike celebration, a football carnival for the Guangdong people officially began.

The distinctive charm of the 21 city teams was showcased one by one. Each city formed its own cheering squad and created a dedicated presentation drawing on local cultural landmarks, tourism resources and regional characteristics, accompanied by customized city-themed rap performances. Together, they brought to life the idea of "One City, One Charm" and "One Team, One Scene." The cheering squads explored local elements such as regional cuisine, traditional intangible cultural heritage and distinctive industries, creating 21 highly recognizable signature scenes. These presentations not only vividly demonstrated the development of football across Guangdong but also fully showcased Guangdong's diverse regional cultures, turning football into an important bond that connects cities and brings people together.
